Project:  A collection of small boxes for the 
1997 National Box Competition.  For additional boxes made by Terpening, see 
"The Best of Wood Boxes" published by Popular Woodworking 
Books.


Materials: Various exotics normally laminated 
with accent woods or inlays.


Finish: Danish oil for depth followed by gel 
varnish for humidity protection.  Satin wax.


Size:  Most of my boxes are small to facilitate 
shipping from a gallery or carrying in a suitcase.

Project:  The "Empress Collection".  A 
series of boxes that would appeal to a woman, that would draw her to it with a 
desire to touch and hold the piece.  A handle that would demand the observer to 
lift it.  This collection has been popular with galleries in Boston, Los 
Angeles, and Seattle.

  Materials: This piece is redwood burl with 
accents of wenge. Other pieces in the collection have been made of pink ivory, 
ebony, banksia pod, and maple burl.

  Finish:  Danish oil and gel varnish.  Interior 
lined with either leather or velvet.


Size:  Pieces in the Empress collection are 
3.5"w x 6.5"L x 2" h.
