March Program
Our March meeting included a demonstration by Vince Mariano
on how to sharpen chisels using a belt sander. He showed quick and easy
techniques for this process and provided tips on how to make the best use of
this method. This will save many of us
a great deal of time and money because of not having to send these chisels out
to be sharpened. We appreciate Vince
passing this information on to the rest of us. Thanks, Vince!!
March Winner
Carl Underwood was the lucky one to win the DeWalt Tool-of-the Month in March. He got
to have the use of a surface planer for the last month. We are looking forward to his report of this tool and how well it
worked for him. Don’t forget, any
member in attendance at the meetings is eligible to win this each month. It’s a great way to preview a new tool free
of charge. Don’t miss out!!
Meeting Time
Don’t
forget that our monthly meetings start with a social time at 5:30 and program
beginning at 6:00. Also let’s remember
to be courteous to our hosts and be careful where we place wet cups and food
items. We all know what kind of damage
these items can be to tools and worktables.
Let’s not return damage for hospitality!
April Program
Our program in April will be by Charles Cooley. He will be showing “Amazing Things with
Planes and Scrapers”. You may remember that Mr. Cooley gave a very entertaining
and informative program a few months ago on “Musical Instruments of the
Bible”. I’m sure that this month’s
program will be just as much fun and give some important information to us. Be sure to be there to hear this!!
Speakers Needed
If you have an idea for a speaker, or would like to present
a program yourself, get in touch with Mike Rosenberg. He’s got some great programs lined up for us but I am sure he
would be glad of your input.
At our April meeting DeWalt will be showcasing their scroll
saw. Some lucky member will get to take
this saw home. Be sure to get in on
this great chance to have this tool for a month. And remember, you must be a
member to participate.
Meeting Date Change
Don’t forget that our meeting time for April was changed due
to the Easter holidays. The meeting
will be on the second Monday, which is April 9th. Don’t miss it!
Website Review
By
Michael Rosenberg
Woodworkers Central at www.woodworking.org/ This website offers a lot of
information sharing and equipment review areas. You can search for plans and articles, read online articles and
even enter a chat room every Wednesday at 9:00 P.M. Multiple links are listed so plan extra time if you start
browsing.
CWA
Website
By the way, if you haven’t checked out our own website
lately, you ought to give it a look.
There is a lot of information about our organization plus a member’s
gallery with photos of some projects from our own members. You can also preview the newsletter and find
out what is coming up for the club. And
if you have a project you want to showcase you can do that too. Just get in touch with Dave Lewis to post
it.
Membership List
The latest membership list usually comes out with the April
newsletter. However, due to moving
everything up a week it will come to you separately next week.
Sorry for the delay
Because of
the delay in getting the membership list out, you have a little more time to
pay your dues for this year and get on
the new membership list. Otherwise your information will not be included. You can mail a check to Brent Richardson at 501
Newcastle Court, Concord, NC 28025. Be
sure to take advantage of this extra time.
Need for
Articles
If you have any ideas for articles for the newsletter, be
sure to get in touch with me. We are
always looking for input from our members.
You can also submit a website review if you have come across something
interesting. These days, woodworkers
spend almost as much time on the Internet as they do in the shop. So if you have come across a site that has
info we can use, be sure to pass it on.
Just email me at theredmax@carolina.rr.com.
New Members
We have had a lot if interest in our organization lately,
due to exposure at the Woodworking Show, etc.
As a result we have had several new members joining. If you see an unfamiliar face, be sure to
say hello. And if you know others who
might be interested in joining, bring them to a meeting and let them check it
out. There is also room for more!!
