June Program
Our June meeting was another fun presentation by one of our favorites, John
Leake. John gave us some great tips on table design and construction. He gave us
some very helpful information on double mortise and tenon joints, handcut
dovetails, tapered legs, etc. John also had two of his tables for us to examine
and a handout on table making, including dimensions for specific purpose tables.
We appreciate, as always, his input!
July Meeting
Our July meeting will be held at Woodcraft in Matthews. We will have a
presentation on boxes by Dan Galante. The last time we were there we had a great
time and great attendance. Woodcraft is going to “sweeten the pot” by giving us
some special deals that night. (Check the enclosed flyer). You won’t want to
miss this fun time!
DeWalt Changes
We will be seeing a new DeWalt face at our meetings. Trae is moving on and up.
His replacement is Davis Fuss. I am sure he will be a great addition to their
team. Be sure to make him welcome.
By-laws
Brent Richardson
Work is ongoing on the update of the CWA’s by-laws. A presentation of the
proposed changes will occur at the August or September meeting for ratification
by the membership.
Upcoming Events
As of this printing, no information was available about the August meeting. But
I know that Mike Rosenberg has some great things lined up for us. We will have
some shop tours, maybe a sawmill tour and workshops. Stay tuned for details!
DeWalt Tool-of-the-Month
At our July meeting DeWalt will demonstrate their new cordless plate joiner.
Remember, Mike McCabe took home a miter saw last month to use until the next
meeting. Be sure to attend and get a chance to use the plate joiner for a month.
Members only are eligible for this so don’t miss out!
Classified Section
The Classified Section will run ads free of charge to members who are looking to
buy, sell or trade wood or woodworking equipment, looking for help or would like
to offer their services to others. The following departments will be included:
For Sale, Wanted, Services Available, Help Wanted, and For Trade. Please send
your request to the editor by the 5th day of the month for inclusion in the next
newsletter.
12 ˝" Dewalt Planer for sale. Two extra sets of blades and dust hood. Priced at
$250. If interested, please call Richard Curley at 704-597-8530.
Upcoming Events
Mike Rosenberg
We are looking at late October for a Saturday workshop with David Wright from
Kentucky on “Building a Windsor Chair”. He can start with Friday evening for a
short slide show and question/answer then continue on Saturday 9-4 with a lunch
break. We are looking at hosting this at the Woodworking Shop and lunch will be
included. The date is not yet confirmed but we need to get an idea of
attendance. The cost will be close to $50/person. We will have more details at
the next meeting.
Christmas Projects
Several members indicated at our last meeting that they are already making items
for One Special Christmas. Just remember that it is not too soon to start your
item for donation. It will be on us before you know it!
CWA WEB Site
Brent Richardson
Please look at
WWW.CHARLOTTEWOODWORKERS.ORG regularly to see the changes and
enhancements that Barry Boyer, our Webmaster has been making. The site also
contains links to other woodworking clubs’ websites that you will likely find
very interesting. A membership application is now online for those who want to
download one from the website.
Membership
Brent Richardson
We currently have 127 members in the CWA. Please encourage your friends to join
us for a meeting and show their interest in woodworking. The cost of the
membership can pay for itself with one purchase from our supporters.
Elections
Elections will be on us before you know it too. Please be thinking where you
might want to serve the CWA or someone you think might do well as an officer. At
least two positions will be available, so be giving this some serious thought.
Program Committee
We need at least five people to serve on the program committee. The plan is to
let each one schedule two meetings during the year. This would also cover the
January meeting which is our first after elections and would give us a head
start. There are prizes involved for one or two of the committee members. If you
are interested, or just have an idea for a program please get in touch with Mike
Rosenberg.
