Our October meeting was a fun-filled, informative program on building canoes. Bob Benston brought one of his handiworks and pictures of others that he has built. He also provided information on different products, besides wood, that are necessary in building a watertight canoe. This was all very impressive and we appreciate his sharing his work with us. Thanks, Bob!
As if we are not tired enough of hearing about voting, please remember that per our by-laws we hold elections every November. The nominations were held at the October meeting and are as follows:
President: Don Ogden
Vice-President: Michael Rosenberg
Secretary: Maxine Pennell
Treasurer: Brent Richardson
Come prepared to cast your vote. Please don’t make us have to do a recount!!
For those of us who were at the October meeting at Woodcraft, a good time was in the plan. Not only was the program on canoes a fun time, but there were many give-aways. Woodcraft gave away a DeWalt Random Orbit sander. The lucky winner was Dennis Leffler. Robert Harbage took home the tool-of-the-month which was a DeWalt saw blade. Woodcraft also gave us coupons good for discounts on many items until the end of October. This was the first meeting we
had held at this location and it was a raging success. Thanks, Woodcraft for making us feel so welcome. We’ll be back
At our November meeting we will have a presentation on exotic hardwoods by Fabs Corte of Cormark International. This is a family owned South African based lumber manufacturing and distribution company which has now opened a warehouse in Asheville. This should prove to be very interesting.
No Meeting in December
Remember that we will have no regular meeting (or newsletter) in December.
Our January meeting will feature John Leake. We don’t know yet what he has in store for us. But his programs are always fun and educational. Be sure not to miss it.
We were saddened by the news at our last meeting of the sudden passing of member Floyd Ellington. I understand that Floyd was a charter member of the Charlotte Woodworkers Association and will be missed by those who knew him. If you wish to express condolences to the family you can call his daughter, Pat King at 704-527-6608.

As usual, in October, DeWalt showed a new tool. This time it was their table saw. Very impressive. In November, we will have the tool-of-the-month and demo of a tool. But it will be a surprise!! Remember two months ago they surprised us with a brand new biscuit joiner as a give-away. You’d better show up to see what might happen this time. Whatever it is it will be great.
Bob Reading still has some equipment for sale including:
An 8" Delta Table saw, a 10" General cabinet makers saw, Jet ½ reversible shaper, 14" Delta bandsaw with Carter guides, 18" Bridgewood floor model bandsaw. Also a 2HP compressor with 20 gal tank, a 6.5 HP 2 stage compressor with an 80 gal tank, 6 speed Delta drill press that has a 6" travel with a foot pedal; and a 28-foot extension ladder.
I also have some cherry and elm lumber from Wing Haven. I have about 100 board feet of lumber Bob Reading 704-821-7868
